PIW now offers a course on the Esthetics of Video Editing,
covering the basic principles that professional editors utilize
to orchestrate compelling narratives. This course is ideal
for those who would like to build a career as professional
editors as well as for those who would like to edit their
own projects.
Do
I need any prior filmmaking or computer knowledge in
order to take your class?
While
many of our students have had prior experience working
in the film industry, no experience of this sort is
necessary or expected. You will, however, find that
a basic working knowledge of computers will greatly
improve your experience as a student here. For those
of you with little experience using computers, we recommend
looking into a basic introductory Macintosh computer
class. But the only thing that is truly required for
the class is motivation; film editing requires the ability
to work independently and creatively.
Are
you teaching on the latest version of Final Cut Pro
and other software?
As new versions
of Final Cut Pro 5.0 are released, we had quickly incorporated
them into our classes.
Do
you offer classes in any other locations?
We currently
only offer classes in New York City.
Can
I come in to visit your classes?
As we know
the course is a big commitment, we encourage prospective
students to stop by and get a sense of our program.
We only ask that you call beforehand so we can make
sure you don't interrupt the instructors and students.
Do
I need to buy anything or bring anything with me?
You may be asked to bring a blank external hard drive
with at least 120GB capacity along with your notebooks.
Will
I have my own computer to work on?
you'll have
your own editing system from the day one.
